Synopsis:
At age twenty-six, author Michelle L. Whitlock thought she had it all: she was in the best physical shape of her life, she had a promising career, and she had a budding romance that looked like it could finally be the real thing. Then doctors informed her that she had HPV. Weeks later her worst nightmare became her reality: she was diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer.
In this memoir, Michelle narrates the story of her ordeal. She tells how she took charge of her healthcare and pursued an experimental surgery that treated the cancer while preserving her fertility. The surgery was a success, but just years later—a week after the love of her life proposed—Michelle discovered her cancer was back.

How I Lost My Uterus and Found My Voice follows Michelle as she wonders ifshe will live or die, have children, or enjoysex again. This is one woman’s story of falling in love, battling HPV and cervicalcancer, facing sexual dysfunction, confronting her conflicting feelings aboutmotherhood, and becoming her own best advocate. Inspirational and honest, this memoir tells the emotional story of love, loss, resilience, and survival.

Early praise for Michelle L. Whitlock and How I Lost My Uterus and Found My Voice

Exciting New Partnerships and Innovations for Cervical Cancer Prevention in the Developing World Show Promise

November 23rd, 2011

New York, November 23, 2011 – Today, Women Deliver released a report “Delivering Cervical Cancer Prevention in the Developing World,” that highlights exciting new partnerships and innovations in cervical cancer prevention and treatment.

This report comes at an important time: the GAVI Alliance recently announced its commitment to providing HPV vaccinations for 2 million girls in nine countries by 2015. This is a pivotal milestone in the efforts both to bring global attention to the issue of cervical cancer and to galvanize resources to scale up prevention efforts. Partnerships, worldwide and across sectors, have the potential to bring us closer than ever before to a world free of cervical cancer-related deaths.

“Delivering Cervical Cancer Prevention in the Developing World” includes profiles of success in increasing access to HPV vaccines and treatment from around the world, with country spotlights on Mexico, Thailand, Bolivia and Rwanda. All of these countries have distinguished themselves as pioneers in ensuring that girls and women have information on and access to the services they need to detect, prevent and treat cervical cancer.
